2024 Photo Competition Winners Revealed

Craig Charley
After another year of outstanding photos from our customers, the results are in for our 2024 Photo Competition.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered over the past year. We share your photos with the whole team as they come in, and then with everyone else on Facebook and Instagram too!

As ever, it was incredibly difficult to whittle nearly 300 photos down to our top 10 list - and then to vote for our favourites! So much stunning scenery and so many smiling faces.

But now that the hard work is out of the way, it's time to reveal our 2024 Photo Competition winners...

First Place - Mick Oldham

Judges' verdict: We struggled to narrow Mick's remarkable photos from the Lofoten Islands in Norway down to just one (you can see the wonderful full collection on Facebook and Instagram), but this shot of his wife Susan taking a break and looking out across the still sea and rugged scenery came out on top. This has to be a contender for our most scenic tour, and with views like this along the way, it's hard not to stop and stare in awe at every opportunity.

Second Place - Benita Luke

Lakes of Southern Bavaria Bike Tour, August 2024

Benita Luke - Lakes of Southern Bavaria Bike Tour, August 2024

Judges' verdict: One of my colleagues described this as "a warm hug in a photo" and we feel it perfectly captures the joy of cycling in stunning locations with loved ones. Our Lakes of Southern Bavaria tour features a great variety of bike paths along rivers and lakes and through woods and open fields, but you're rarely without a view of the impressive Bavarian Alps. This tour is ideal if you like to be in the mountains but you don't want to be cycling up and down them - you can see from Benita's photo how gentle the cycling terrain is! See the rest of Benita's photos on Facebook or Instagram.

Benita said: "On the start of our third day of the self-guided “Lakes of Southern Bavaria” trip we were just outside the the beautiful quaint town of Murnau when we had this photo taken. Views were so extraordinary with wide open fields of grass and flowers while continually in view of the magnificent Bavarian Alps. There were lovely photo opportunities around every corner. A bonus was the well-maintained bike paths which were all on country roads (no traffic). A perfect day which included a relaxed lunch and of course some good German beer."

Third Place - Glyn Roberts

Lofoten Islands Bike Tour, August 2024

Glyn Roberts - Lofoten Islands Bike Tour, August 2024

Judges' verdict: We're not surprised that the Lofoten Islands features twice in our top three, it's just that beautiful - even in grey and damp weather! Glyn's photos (see the rest on Facebook or Instagram) perfectly captured the serenity of this area. Not another person in sight, just astonishing natural beauty and fascinating heritage sites.

Glyn said: "This photo is of Gimsøy Church on day 3 of our Lofoten Islands bike tour in August ’24. We were coming to the end of our first big cycling day of the trip. The sign for the church pointed down a small farm track, so it would have been easy to overlook with tired legs and the hotel calling. But we took the detour and were rewarded with the MOST beautiful beachside church with breathtaking views. If you have Lofoten cycling on your bucket list, then this tour delivers stunning scenery, great food and unforgettable experiences north of the Arctic Circle. Highly recommended."

Fourth Place - Matthew Gamm

Dubrovnik to Split Boat & Bike Tour, May 2024

Matthew Gamm - Dubrovnik to Split Boat & Bike Tour, May 2024
Climbs aren't everyone's idea of fun cycling, but they do allow for some amazing views - and some brilliant shots of fellow cyclists! Plus, with e-bikes available on all our Croatia tours, you don't have to sweat too much on the ascents.

Fifth Place - Joel Chapman

4 Countries & 3 Lakes Bike Tour, June 2024

Joel Chapman - 4 Countries & 3 Lakes Bike Tour, June 2024
Lake Walen (Walensee) is one of the three glistening lakes that gives this tour its name. The crystal clear waters are perfect for refreshing dips and soothing tired legs and look particularly inviting in Joel's photo.

Sixth Place - Richard Ingle

Baltic Coast - Klaipeda to Riga Bike Tour, July 2024

Richard Ingle - Baltic Coast - Klaipeda to Riga Bike Tour, July 2024
Richard came third in our 2022 competition and is back in the top 10 two years later with this fun shot north of Palanga in Lithuania. They do say that life imitates art!

Seventh Place - Kindy Kaur

Venice to Porec Bike Tour, May 2024

Kindy Kaur - Venice to Porec Bike Tour, May 2024.
Kindy's smiley photos had the whole office grinning along with her. It was hard to pick our favourite, but we were swayed by the splash of colour from the poppy fields and the blue skies in this one.

Eighth Place - Caroline Hill

Lake Constance & Rhine Falls Bike Tour, May 2024

Caroline Hill - Lake Constance & Rhine Falls Bike Tour, May 2024
You just have to take one look to know that this is taken in Switzerland! Caroline captured a lovely angle of Diessenhofen on the banks of the Rhine, en route to the Rhine Falls from Lake Constance.

Ninth Place - Rebecca Snow

Portugal's West Coast - Lisbon to Lagos Bike Tour, March 2024

Rebecca Snow - Portugal's West Coast - Lisbon to Lagos Bike Tour, March 2024
While this tour mostly follows Portugal's Atlantic Coast, the inland scenery is just as special, such as this view along the River Seixe estuary.

Tenth Place - Sasha Uhlmann

Lake Bled to Ljubljana Bike Tour, July 2024

Sasha Uhlmann - Lake Bled to Ljubljana Bike Tour, July 2024
Sasha's photo of the Slovenian countryside is a classic Freedom Treks shot and one that often features in our photo competition. It's a particularly relaxing stretch of cycling (perfect for photos!) with gentle, well-paved paths and a beautiful backdrop.
