Ride between two of Italy’s most famous cities, passing through areas of outstanding natural beauty and stopping off in charismatic towns. Touring south from the Adriatic coast, you’ll ride leisurely through the fertile green valleys of Emilia Romagna and past the foothills of the Apennine Mountains to arrive in Florence, Tuscany’s history-charged capital. Cycling past flamingos and unique plant life in the Delta del Po nature reserve is a magical experience and you’ll ride with a backdrop of neat vineyards and sunflower fields.
Following the Adige and Po rivers, you’ll pedal past orchards of kiwis, peaches and melons. Each fishing village and authentic town holds unique charms and you can look forward to fresh fish, stuffed pasta, Parma ham and excellent wine. The cycling is mainly flat on dams, farm tracks and quiet back roads with a few small hills on the last two days. You’ll have time to see the main city sites in Venice and Florence, but with some of the world’s best collections of art, extending your stay in either city is a good idea.
